This site is a whole lot more important and has a lot more content than just stickies, you know? Just like reddit in its early days, sites like this don't function very well, and are very easy to manipulate, if a good portion of the people don't surf by "new" instead of the other tabs.....

A large portion of us not doing so ourselves makes it extremely easy to control the flow of information to those other tabs, if you were an outside group trying to do just that anyway......

Edit - and a reddit trait that isn't good to have is downvoting a fact because you don't want to hear it.
