If you ever want to know who is ahead, all you need to do is see who is controlling the narrative. Biden is always reacting to Trump, because Trump is controlling the narrative. Biden does not say or do his own things, he always reacts to something Trump did or say.
This is true for any political race, and it pretty much never fails to determine who the winner will be. Look at 2008 and 2012, Obama controlled the narrative. Look at 2016, it is no question that politics were focused around what Trump was saying and literally every other opponent reacting to it. Look at Roy Moore, he was always reacting to accusations against him and it destroyed him. This phenomena did not happen with Kavanaugh because he wasn't being voted on by the population.
Look even further into past elections, lets take about the last two presidential landslides, and the largest landslides in the history of our country. Reagan won 525-13 in 1980:
Reagan was not a policy wonk like Carter, but he was an infinitely better communicator than Carter. He projected an air of optimism that the public was desperate to hear. America will recover economically. America will prevail in the Cold War. The hostages will come back from Iran safe and sound. He was able to convince people he cared about America’s problems first and foremost, and that he not only heard their complaints, but would lead us forward.
Reagan controlled the narrative. Lets look at Nixons 520-17 victory in 1972.
Few people thought Nixon was a very good president, let alone a great one. But the Democratic nominee, George McGovern, was considered to be so far to the left that over 60% of the voting public considered him to be “out of the mainstream” of American politics at that time, even though he was later seen as right on some important issues later.
Controlled the narrative by making the other guy seem out of touch.
