I think it's a stretch to blame this entirely on communists. A lot of this was self-inflicted since the enlightenment period started killing God in order to replace God with materialism. Communists weaponized this subversion but the trend in society was already headed in that direction. The real culprit is atheism and subjective morality backed by the mysticism of "science" undermining God's objective morality.
