This is incredibly necessary.
I'll offer a different perspective. Growing up, ignorant to most things political, the "patriotic" sense felt much like celebrating your bullies, or being proud of people who don't care for you at all. It seemed a bit pathetic then to make such a fuss about it if you weren't "part of the club". It didn't go far as hate, rather just indifference.
Thankfully, our great President has shaken things up so much. There's several sinister reasons for the aforementioned feelings, but the reality of our country, our values, our traditions, our history, is like a breathe of fresh air to sincerely appreciate. There's a lot to be proud of, and children need to know.
