It's like comparing a long burning candle (uranium waste stream) to a shorter burning but flaming tree (thorium waste stream). I know that the half-life of the hottest isotope (Tl-208) is only 3 minutes but most people forget that there are always new ones on the way thanks to the u-233 decay. It's similar to Sr90. We have a saying when it comes to calibration sources that we buy the Sr90 but get the Y90 for free. It essentially doubles the activity.

I support thorium research but we can do the same exact thing with u-238 and Pu-239. And yes, thorium products (u-233) can be used to make weapons. That argument is bunk right off the bat.
