Yeah, Real_President_Trump mentioned it right-off. An Aimpoint Pro should cover your needs, and they also mentioned EOtech, more pricy but solid.

30 yards with your Ruger Ranch in .223/5.56 rifle is telling you very little about your aim unfortunately, though a 50 yard zero is acceptable as regards sight-in. That said, bullet drop (55 grain .223 say) out to 150 yards is minmal for your purposes, so Kentucky Windage is not so much a worry. Out at 300, given conditions are pristine, you can lose more than a foot (~13" or so 55gr mind you from an 18" BAR) in bullet trajectory drop. A small light pill like that loses energy quickly when the velocity falls below 2K ft/s .Sight-in at that range should give you nail-driving capabilities with practice.

If you've read a little about Minute Of Angle (MOA), also take advice proferred, a big muddy dot at 6 MOA will be easy on the eye acquiring it, but you wil sacrifice a lot of accuracy in the process.

Take your rifle for a trip up north. It's hunting season, nothing says that you can't practice safely... just be aware of Fish & Game Rules and Regs regarding ammunition and firearm.
