I wouldn’t say that, but it all depends on what you count as success and failure.

If you believe that the purpose of the UN is to prevent World War III by maintaining peace between the Super Powers, then I would say it’s been an absolute success because we haven’t had a world war since the second one ended in 1945.

But if you believe that the purpose of the UN is to maintain world peace then it has utterly failed in every regard. Sure it brokers peace deals (namely in wars between 3rd world countries) but others then that it fails in preventing war.

Personally I think the UN should only be used to prevent wars between sovereign states. That’s it. You could argue that they might be useful in brokering peace treaties but that’s a big maybe.

I think it needs to stay out of a countries internal affairs. If a country is committing genocide, then it’s up to each individual states, not the UN, to decided to intervene or not. They should have no say over a countries immigration laws or its social attitudes.
