SEL is being co-opted into a soft CRT. I was given the pitch by the school when my son enrolled so I understand what his charter school is focusing on. I didn’t think it would be so radical and politicized feeling. This is happening for kids ALL over CA right now. I have spoken to other parents about this, even liberals ones who are upset because their children are starting to fall behind while teachers focus on race and gender, and the mounting frustration is cumulatively growing. I want oversight and penalties for teachers that stray from basic academic studies like math, reading etc. teach my kid how to read and write, I will teach him morality and how to handle his emotions. If there are kids falling behind in that regard, that is the position of the school counselor. 2-3 hours a day of online social emotion classes for a 5 year old is too much even without the radical politicized agenda behind it.
