Edit: is it possible that they are planning to sacrifice old creepy Joe to infect the President with some sort of bioweapon? To be more clear, could it be the debate and Creepy Joe is their Trojan's horse to approach and inflict Mr. President with a bioengineered virus or potent poison?
Unless they are 100% confident in Joe, I'm unsure why else would they even agree to the debate at all.
