Listening to some of the audio it sounds like two neighbors did not hear them say police. Although they all seem to say they woke up to "loud bangs" so maybe the announcing knock was quiet and no one heard anything until they were already breaching.

Edit: the one neighbor that was awake and had a door open said the first thing he heard was three shots - which I assume were BT's boyfriends as he said he shot first. So I am guessing if he didn't hear they break down a door he probably would not have heard them simply knocking and saying police.

edit edit: Sept. 22 recording – 5 the third neighbor who was trying to leaving so he was awake and paying attention as this all happened: "He described the police uniforms of the officers.... as wearing tactical style vests with the word "Police" on the front. He again stated he did not hear any knocking......he did here the words "POLICE, POLICE". The apartment door was close when he heard them announce POLICE...once they told him to back inside he immediately return to his apartment. He estimated 5-10 minutes went by before hearing gunfire."
