Shotgun. For home defence they are excellent. Get a pump action, a short one, 18 inches. Later you can add a folding stock or other stuff. Like others said here, practice. You need to be confy and safe with your firearm. Get a good brand, even if you have to pay a little more. Not the overpriced Benelli or that kind of stuff. A Remington or Winchester will do nicely.
