A friend who is a retired Staff Sergeant told me one time, “Never trust a cop. I don’t care how friendly they are, they’re not you’re friend. They’ll say anything to get what they want out of you.” I was young and naive and replied, “How can you say that? You were one of them.” He replied, “That’s how I know and why I say it.”

Downvote if you want, it was an actual conversation with the man in his home. I don’t think cops are the bad guys, but we’re the group standing up for them and they’ve stood down too many times when we’re under attack by the same ones who attack them and want their jobs.
