The Democratic party leadership is not actually stupid. They know the economy is important to a re-election, as do the Republicans. Hence why Trump has been doing whatever he can to strengthen the economy and make people courageous about Covid, whereas the Democrats have been doing whatever they can to spread fear about Covid and tank the economy.
