I live nowhere near the capital but before COVID, I remember thinking how crazy light traffic would be on every federal or state government holiday. It always reminded me of how we all have been sucked into dependency on government spending. It’s like WW2 pulled us out of the Great Depression and our politicians keep using the same playbook to keep the entire western world running.

Look at rural “red” America and note just how many towns and counties have the public school district as the largest employer. Next up are the Medicare and Medicaid dependent medical providers.
