I think if Joe Biden had left the VP office and been done with politics, doing this would have been okay. But to do this while intending to run again, he set himself up for an appearance of impropriety, to say the least.

EDIT: This is interesting: Trump made the famous phone call to the Ukrainian president April 21, 2019. Biden announced his bid for the DNC nomination 4 days later. Once he was officially a nominee, investigating him would be "investigating a rival," which the DNC insisted was somehow forbidden, hence the impeachment. This is all very suspect.

EDIT AGAIN: No, wait, it was a 2nd call in July the DNC used as their justification. But I'm thinking now, that first phone call in April alerted Joe to his danger, and he launched a campaign to insulate himself from scrutiny by Trump.
