They're being paid because their real job isn't to report who is likely to win. It's to create a narrative over the months leading up to the election that Biden was supposed to win inside the minds of normal people who don't follow politics much. Their real job is to create a subconscious expectation that of course Biden was supposed to win, they've been hearing about it for months. Last time they were in the waiting room at Discount Tire back in August, or when they were at the Doctor's office, they saw on the TV that Biden is expected to win. Over and over for months leading up to the election, a headline here, an overheard 45 seconds from a "news" channel in passing there, all saying that Biden is supposed to win.

This way when Trump wins, the Left will accuse Trump of fraud and sue, and all those normies will be thinking "Oh yeah, I remember hearing that Biden was supposed to win, if they say Trump only won because of fraud, I guess that makes sense".

The polling companies are being paid good money to plant the seeds of expectation.
