Try to get them to take a step back. Show them infographics of the media hierarchy. Show them how all media is owned by six corporations, and those six are themselves owned by three international organizations. Some of the more detailed infographics will show how what appears to be different channels, different studios, different magazines, different publishers, are all actually owned by the same corporation. This is how they produce such a controlled and uniform message.

Call it the corporate media. Explain that their agenda is not our agenda. Their agenda is profit and control. And how do they do that? They do it by amplifying fear and division. Reporting good news wouldn’t get them clicks. Real extended subtle dialogues between different views - instead of screaming talking heads in ten-second sound bites - wouldn’t get them ratings. People instinctually know this is true and the left have already been indoctrinated to hate corporations, so they are open to the idea that the corporate media isn’t their friend.

Make it emotional. Explain that the corporate media wants to keep everyone in a constant state of fear and agitation. Then explain that you just couldn’t go down that dark path with them. You had to check out for your own mental and emotional health. Leftists don’t expect us to talk like that and it should register with them. They will start to think about the state of fear and agitation they are constantly in. Then start using examples. All the ways the corporate media has used fear and division. Make it personal. Make it about how you couldn’t continue to function believing all their fear-mongering. This neutralizes most counter-arguments because what are they going to say? You SHOULD live in constant fear? You SHOULD stay jacked into the corporate media? Anyway, they aren’t likely to disagree with any of this. They will probably assume you are talking about Fox News. And that’s fine. But get them to see that the other corporations are just as bad as Fox News.
