I read Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland last year. It was not hot headed Nazi Youth that started killing innocence people. Of the 500 ordinary people - salesmen, truck drivers, etc - in this police force, only 4 or 5 refused to kill innocence. The rest killed out of obedience to authority and peer pressure.
My brother would say, Hitler killed nobody but himself. Ordinary German citizens with the help of Russians killed them. And few refused.
