I don't disagree with what The Gift of Fear states, that capacity for destruction, woe and evil is in all of us -- there's a time and a place for violence and force, protecting ones self or family for example -- but those who just practice or do these things out of bordem are truly evil and lack empathy for anything other than their own situation.

The part that should separate us from those who visit those things on others, as you state, is self-control, humility and an understanding that some actions are a net-detractor and ultimately detrimental to the good of the community you live in - being able to empathize.

It's like you watch those BBC programs where they take city people out of London, and they go live with some hidden tribe in the Amazon, and they realize the communities that still practice joint-community-behaviors and identities are actually HAPPY, whereas the people in the cities that have no real community identity other than being in the rate race too, don't seem very happy.

Edit: i'll check out vsauce -- but yeah there were multiple different types of experiments, it wasn't just the prison experiment.
