Upvoted but I disagree on one point. Had the union not been preserved, the United States would've been divided in two, and would've been conquered by European colonizers the same as Latin America and Africa were. I don't necessarily agree with every method Lincoln employed, particularly Habeus Corpus or Sherman's March. I do respect the man as an orator, a commander in chief, and the president who saved the Union. War is never pretty and it's honestly impossible to protect every constitutional right for every citizen. I wish we could and we should always strive to do so. It's impossible to avoid civilian casualties. Hell, we can't even do that now.
