My 87 yo grandma hit her head against the wall when she felt light headed. She was neurologically good and she was dehydrated. She got up too fast (orthostatic hypo).

We called 911 to send emts to check her out an hour later as a non emergent precaution. The system sucks as they sent 4 fire fighters in half gear who are not emts (they just have first responder training). Emts arrived 5 minutes later. I know they are just doing their jobs. It's the system that sucks. Emts make 35k a year starting. Most fire fighters earn 100k with pensions and work 6 days a month. They reapond to one fire above 1 alarm maybe twice a year. Fire fighting is mostly dangerous because of hot shots who dont follow protocol. I respect fire fighters but i think they are overblown. Emts and medics (only 2 types in nyc) are the ones who deserve the praise.

The Lt. rubbed me the wrong way when i asked if they were emts and why 911 sent an engine for a non emergent medical request. We know why nyc is bankrupt. I said it was not his fault and its the system which sucks but he rubbed me the wrong way. It doesn't make sense why they sent an engine which has no emts for a non emergent situation i specifically detailed to 911. They never sent fire when my dad fell out of bed and hit his head. They never sent fire for my mom who had a possible stroke (it was shingles in the head). Only 2 emts. 4 extra people in a 300 sq foot studio during covid (fake but still) doesnt make sense.
