Went with my mother to her sister's church tonight for the New Year's service. The church is an independent Protestant church. Pastor is a giant man with a booming voice who built the place up from nothing by hand nearly 40 years ago. I'm not Christian, but when I come back to the state to visit the family, I always go with my mother when she goes to church on Sunday so I can spend more time with her.
My mom's church has a new Pastor (only arrived four years ago), a woman who pushes CRT and other Progressive nonsense. It shut down this year because of the Coof, only doing Zoom meetings for people when they specifically request them. My aunt's church has stayed open this entire year, so my mother has been going there instead.
Tonight, the church was packed. When the pasture asked people to stand up to say what they were most thankful for this year, I saw person after person stand, and many with tears in their eyes, say they were the most greatful for the church staying open and for the pastor who stayed committed to his flock even during the height of the panic. They thanked him for being there and keeping their community together instead of abandoning them because the state demanded he stop.
He's a giant man with a giant heart, and he is my favorite kind of Christian. He was prepared to go meet his God if that is what it took to tend to his people. He was prepared to suffer the wrath of the state if that is what it took to tend to his people. He was prepared to suffer the slings and arrows of the entire world if that is what it took to tend to his people. To top it off, he did all of it for free. This entire year, he hasn't taken a single dollar in payment to be the pasture. He never has. Everyone works as volunteers at his church, including him.
If even a quarter of our society was made up of such men, I would sleep well at night knowing our future was secured. This new year, let us never cower nor shy away from our responsibilities to our communities. I'll see you all in Washington D.C. on the 6th.
