My home state of Ohio has a population of 11,689,100 (density: 282/sq mi), and Sweden's is 10,333,456 (59.6/sq mi). So, very similar population size but ours is much denser.
We have had 14,694 identified cases of the Chinese virus, and Sweden has had 16,755. This comes out to .1% of both being infected and severe enough to get tested, so again very similar. Now here comes the "fun" part.
Ohio has had 656 deaths (rate: 4%), while supposed socialized medical paradise Sweden has had 2,021 (rate: 12%)! There is a two week difference between the official arrival dates of the virus in Ohio and Sweden (Sweden getting it first) but our cases have peaked so I doubt we will catch up.
Sweden did not lock down like we did, but did promote working from home and limited public gathering sizes to under 50. They also did not close primary schools, and their government only requested people over 70 (!) to stay at home but also won't give ventilators to those over 60.
Very interesting to see how this played out.
EDIT: I think everyone is missing the point of this post. This is about their healthcare system being shit, as it obviously isn't helping them. If anything, it shows the lockdown didn't do much since we have similar numbers of cases for our populations (although they also have lower density, so maybe there is something? But that's still not the point here).
