You might think the Democrats messed up when they barely won the Presidency and Senate (non-proportional representation) but lost the House (proportional representation) because it makes no sense. You'd be wrong: they didn't want to win the House because if they did, they'd have no good excuses to provide to AntiFA and BLM about why they aren't putting more of their agenda forward. What they actually want is to control the White House and SCOTUS, then have their people rule by executive order and court cases. Republicans in the House serve as controlled opposition that they can blame when the anarchists come calling.

With the first thing in mind, realize that the Democrat's control over their voter bases are actually far more fragmented than the Republican's control over theirs. They literally could not survive an across the board political win.

The only elections that are sometimes not rigged are the local and state-based elections. Those are the ones that we can influence and win part of the time, even with a third party. Insofar as we might lose national elections, those are rigged anyway and the Democrats need Republicans as controlled opposition (see above) so there is no reason we should be trying to win those at this point because we would not get beyond the controlled opposition level anyway.

Trump running again in a system he says is rigged makes no sense. He would have more influence with a third party than he would continuing to be a Republican after they stuck the knife in him.
