I get the intent of the payroll tax cut but I think it's a major oversight and it's really making me upset. I currently make just over 100k. I was so happy when I finally got over that amount as I have always dreamed of it and just recently got a raise that put me over. Now someone who makes $99k is going to make more than me, they pay none of the approx 7% payroll tax and yet I will pay all of that 7%. I'm honestly freaking out a little bit right now because I'm going to have to go to my boss and ask to make less money I think at least if this becomes permanent. Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Is it an oversight? I'm not getting how this is ok to punish people who are right over that line.

I don't get why this isn't like normal tax brackets where people making over 100k would just pay the tax on the amount over 100k. I'll do the math for people. Someone making $99k would pay no payroll tax. Someone making 101k would pay let's say 7% so that's $7070 making their income actually $93,930. Both situations would then pay all other taxes, of course, but the person making 101k is making less. Am I wrong or misunderstanding something?

Edit: I don't seem to be able to reply to comments because my account is new I'm usually a lurker but this got me to finally post. To people making personal attacks just stop you are acting like dumbass liberals. My concern is about this becoming permanent so if it's just for the end of year it's not a big deal but it sounded to me like it would be the same implementation if Trump wins reelection and it becomes permanent. I don't have anyone else to vote for anyway so I'm still voting Trump but this is an oversight I think.
