IIRC there was some bullshit court decision requiring NC to accept late mail ins up to the 8th or something like that. While accepting late ballots is BS in and of itself, having polling only "really" close a couple days ago could account for some of the delay.

D-R gap (meaning number of D votes minus the number of R votes) is currently -73,000, meaning there are 73k more R votes than D votes.
Total vote count is 9.8M, with 3.73M D votes and 3.80M R votes.
The gap has been growing by the hour, too; D had a 100k advantage going into election day, so to have nearly reversed that in only a few hours puts R voters on a trajectory to crush D voter totals.
