I have read enough studies to conclude masks are ineffective as disease-control devices. That science tells me 2+2=4. And yet tyrannical officials are "mandating" wearing masks, and any random piece of cloth counts. To "stop the spread" of a virus, which they clearly cannot do.
That tells me government is declaring 2+2=5, and they are demanding that I agree, visibly, by wearing a mask. They are now even ramping up the pressure, by beginning to fine people who don't comply, using financially coercion, without any legislative action. It's simply tyrannical fiat.

In the end of 1984, poor Winston finally capitulates and says 2+2=5. Ultimately, as hard as he fought, the relentless pressure finally got to him. I'm afraid our entire culture is similarly giving in to this.

OMG. If you begin from a flawed premise, the outcome cannot be fixed without refuting the premise. And that means rejecting what they "know" to be true.
That is a very difficult situation. There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Yikes. I haven't heard that one. They did tell me their system was pretty rough on the individual. if you were injured, and someone else took you to a hospital, unless you can prove you can pay they'll refuse admission. It even becomes a problem for the "good Samaritan". So they usually won't help some random person.
I visited a city in interior China. VERY busy streets, pedestrians do NOT have the right of way. To cross an 8 lane road, we just had to walk deliberately, slowly, and let the cars work around us. Terrifying. And yet it is done routinely. They told me, "just be predictable". And if you get in the way of a car, if it hits you, you are liable for the damage to the car! Very different mindset...
I used to record every race, watching most of them. I've driven one of the track experiences at Talladega, driving six laps at up to 170 mph. Got the video. I have been more than a casual fan!
And yet, it's over. I'm done. The image of some clown kneeling during the anthem, with a black power fist in the air tore it for me. And then the NooseCAR fiasco. Done, done, done, done. I'll never watch another NooseCAR race again. These clowns are disrespecting MY country, MY flag, MY history, and NO ONE is fighting them. Well, "screw you guys, I'm going home...."

But my goodness do I enjoy watching Kayleigh handle these clowns. I love to watch someone who is extremely good at their job! Polite, smart, quick, prepared, accurate, succinct, patient, responding to their "gotcha" questions like a surgical strike. Wonderful.
This is an excellent point! Precisely what I've been thinking. I don't even really like to listen to him at his rallies, too unfocused, sounding like high-school taunting. But I do like what seem to be his core values.
I wish those around him would let him be more.... him.
My father-in-law and I used to talk about this. He observed that if the South had won, they would have ended up pretty much like Haiti. They only had agrarian commerce, with little ability to industrialize like the North did. This CSA would have greatly struggled for self-sufficiency, likely leading to a long-term impoverished nation.
The tragedy is indeed that "The War of Northern Aggression" (as my southern friends call it), ended with the Federals winning. Ever since then, there has been a rampant, unchecked growth in the centralized Federal government.
It wasn't supposed to be like this! It was supposed to be a limited central government with strong, individual, states. Yes, Georgia coiuld have laws radically different from say, New York, or Montana. Of course, because their culture, their needs, could be radically different.
Instead, we have this metastasized central government, over-running the states and leading to yet another failed experiment in a centrally planned socialist/communist nation.
I'm afraid we are very likely to ultimately end up in the Red/Blue divided continent envisioned in Kurt Schlichter's books.

What size moisture droplets? How many virus particles are on various size droplets? How do moisture droplets move through the air, as in spray vs. aerosol? You can find studies that dispute this simplistic understanding.
It may be "basic microbiology", but it is nowhere near that simple.
