I’m a Mexican immigrant. EVERYONE in privileged in the United States, even we immigrants. Why do you think everyone tries so hard to come here?
I used to be a teacher before I left due to lack of administrative support, peer politics, wage, etc. I was hired at about 32k a year out of college, and I was making the same as other teachers with 5 years experience in my district. I always wonder why my fellow conservatives think teachers are over paid babysitters, that they only work 9 months out of the year (it’s actually more like 10 1/2 to 11 counting summer trainings, certifications, recertifications, etc that they don’t always get compensated for), that teacher unions let them get away with murder (I never even met a union rep) A lot of people leave teaching because of the pay, ridiculous certifications and hoops you have to jump through, difficult kids with difficult families, etc. there are many that stay for the wrong reasons, but many also stay because they honestly want to educate kids. Fellow conservatives want to make it sound like I went to college to learn 1 + 1 = 2. I went to college to learn things like classroom management, early childhood development, child psychology, etc. it’s not easy managing 30 kids, making sure they retain what they learn, coming in early and staying late for tutoring, lesson planing with added accommodations for children with difficulties, learning flavor of the month approaches just for them to be tossed out when they don’t work. Conservatives need to stop treating teachers like they’re the enemy, or all liberals, or lazy idiots.
We don’t do that here, even if it wasn’t against the rules, which it is.
