Literally had people tell me to my face that making this comparison was not only offensive and racist, but that the risk of spreading deadly virus was outweighed by the need to push for racial justice right now.

When I reminded them that weeks ago people were told that congregating in large groups for any reason was going to "kill black and brown people" and asked how they could claim to believe black lives matter but were also willing to risk exposing them to covid-19, I swear it was just like that 4-panel NPC meme where they realize they just fell in to your trap card - sparks erupted from their neck and the looping began as I politely agree to disagree, thanking them for their opinion and walking away...

I first heard about it when I a year ago after I'd moved to Seattle, but even then had only the vaguest ideas about what it was about, and I had no idea about it's origins in Texas.

I think that Juneteenth being a national holiday to observe the ending of slavery isn't the best day to recognize the event - I'd choose December 6th, the day the 13th amendment was ratified. If I were in GEOTUS's place, that's probably what I would do - make Dec. 6th a one-time national holiday by EO, and then have Republicans push for Congress to make it permanent.

Any time freedom grows in America in such a significant way - especially in the case where the end result is a new amendment - it should be observed in the order of magnitude it represents. A national holiday is appropriate. It would also be yet one more example of how Trump cares more about America and Americans than his predecessors.

Wow!

A beautiful song sung by two beautiful girls! Get these young ladies on the rally stage to open for GEOTUS!

I love everything about this! But it also makes me wish that he traveled the country by rail occasionally on an actual Trump Train, at least for the montages.

Came for the Trumpwave, stayed for the montage. What an amazing reminder of how happy we were before all this senseless division.

I hate everything about this, but I have to admit I have a certain level of admiration for a group that is so willing to call out the obvious bluff of those that posses apparent power.

The have made it clear that the only thing that will stop them is physical force, yet they know that no one is willing to use it against them, because by the standards presently set, to cause physical harm to someone for the sake of inanimate objects is morally reprehensible.

What do you care more about? Present day human life and suffering, or preserving monuments of hatred(lol) that cause genuine anguish(lmao) and trauma(rofl) to those who are forced to see them every day and thus be reminded that America considers them lesser-than and that they live in a country that endorses hateful ideas engineered to enslave them(no u)?

...sigh...

What we have to remember is that people love to be part of a group and that nothing groups people together quite like hatred, especially when it is done under the guise of a righteous cause.

I remember when this started with confederate monuments. Those were easy targets because in the simplest of contexts they were traitors that started a war in order to keep slaves. Who is going to stick up for them other than plain and simple racists? Fuck 'em!

Next on the chopping block came Christopher Columbus, who personally exterminated and ran out the universally peaceful native Americans and paved the way for the white christian patriarchy by way of evil colonialism. Plus everyone knows he was just an idiot who just got lost, and everyone in europe thought he was a loser, because he was! Who would stand up for that? Fuck him!

Then it became anyone associated with slavery regardless of context. Now they're renaming schools named after Jefferson and Washington; Lincoln is probably next. I saw in Portland they'd pulled down a statue of George Washington and so this latest example painted in the article is just another one for the list. Maybe they'll target Mt. Rushmore next? Or maybe they'll start going after Christ on the cross? The sky's the limit when no leader is willing to command force to stop maniacs.

I tried to insert a witty comment, but this is just too sad. Whitmer is truly a nasty woman and has no shame.

Sure, everyone is a product of their environment. But the vast majority of people, including those born in to poverty, or in to shitty homes, or go to bad schools or live in poor socioeconomic areas, or those who have all those things and on top of it are black or brown somehow manage to not become criminals or worse; repeat offenders.

Why is that?

How does it feel to strip an entire race of people of their agency and the basic human dignity of personal responsibility?

This is still my favorite Spider-Man film and that's primarily due to Alfred Molina. What a performance!

Wow, the mere image of a rope hanging from a tree is not just racist, but evil! So long rope swings and climbing ropes! But the soy folk of today have probably never used a rope in their lifetime.

Right. One way or the other, the presence(and use) of a gun is what ended the encounter and saved this man from being ripped to shreds by an angry mob that was chasing him down, attacking him with deadly weapons and literally announced an intent to kill.

Frankly, I'd say this encounter would be a great jumping off point to challenge permit requirements for concealed carry as being unconstitutional. Why should I have to get approval from the state to exercise my right to defend myself?

CNN: Standing room only at Joe Biden's first rally as considerate attendees follow the former VP's leading example; wearing masks and practinning safe social distancing.

Put Seattle on the list. I live here, but these damn dirty fucks need to learn.

Protect and serve includes themselves, too. This isn't really a safe climate for police to operate in so....see you in 2 weeks?

20MagnusKonrad20 11 points ago +11 / -0

They literally say this. They want the police force as an organization gone so that they can replace it with a "pure" organization that has no stain of history behind it; one that can be trusted with authority.

Any chance this order will lay out reforms, but will also make I clear that policing will only occur in communities that are deemed safe for police presence by meeting certain criteria? Any? :p

Won't work because they can always wave in your face that neither of them owned slaves. Owning slaves is the bedrock of evil to them, and once you hit that, you deserve to be erased from history. Any other act is excusable.
