Both here in Seattle and across the country has been instigated and perpetuated not by the people most impacted by generations of discrimination and institutional racism, but by young white men. These were not the acts of allies. These were the acts people who came with their own intentions to destroy, to injure and to cause chaos. These individuals experienced the height of privilege and are co-opting peaceful demonstrations organizing by and meant to be centered on people of color, particularly black Americans. In Seattle we saw a video of such young men setting an SPD vehicle on fire. I do not believe these actions were done in the name of justice or racial equity, but rather chaos, destruction and hate.

Good to know that my city's mayor knows just how to handle a crisis - blame whitey.
