The virus does not travel on its own through the air, it travels in water particles (from a sneeze for example). So comparing the actual size of the virus to anything is useless. You stop the water particle (where the virus is) from entering your airways, you stop the virus.
It's like a Truck driver inside a truck.
Let's say we have a human sized door and the driver CANNOT step outside of the truck to go through the door.
Yes when you measure the door and the man you know he will fit through the door. But he can't step outside of the truck. So is there a real chance of the truck driver passing through a door without exiting the truck? No. The virus cannot travel without the water particle.
I don't wear a mask not because i don't think it does not work (it actually does, in principle and proven to work in Taiwan for example). I don't wear it because it's just a flu and I am healthy.
