...well... even that isn't entirely true. in some states it's illegal to lie to cops... specifically if you provide a false name and DOB when legally ask. They still have to have a valid reason or RAS (reasonable articulatable suspicion) of a crime that you either already committed, are committing, or are about to commit... but even that isn't true in some states. Check your "stop and ID" laws that will be particular to your state, state laws vary quite a bit on this issue.
