The phone thing is by far the biggest challenge on this list. There could be a whole nother thread dedicated to how to pull that off. I mean if you really think about it, the only reason you'd need a Apple/Google phone is for the support for all the apps and games. A Linux phone will run calls/SMS/web browser just fine, and GPS will still work for maps and navigation.

I think an important takeaway here is realizing that all the "free" services we're so accustomed to are really not a value add. Especially the comment about your cable service. Think about what your monthly entertainment budget is, or what you currently spend on vendors on this list. Ex. I pay for Epoch Times and OAN. Might subscribe to Criterion for $9.99 to get access to good cinema. I could pay for Proton Mail, and then budget say another $25/month to donate to content creators. I can pick up 30 or so OTA channels in my area. Now I'm at about $50/month. Not really spending that much, I get to play around with some new Linux toys, and most importantly I sleep well knowing I talked the talk and walked the walk.
