Some states only let you vote in primary elections for the party you registered as to choose who is on the party ticket later on. This is why it's minorly kek worthy to register as a party you never intend to vote for. Through a concerted effort you can vote for a terrible candidate, but the Dems do a good enough job of that on their own.
