1.) It could make legislatures and fence sitter republicans jump ship out of spite and because we know the left will treat them like they are the resistance and give the appearance of welcoming them with open arms as heroes (until they so what the left wants). So they could be convinced they are standing against the machine anf bad guys instead of being part of it.
2.) Talking about it so early seems desperate.
