BlackRock’s annual letter to CEOs states “In 2020 we identified 244 companies that are making insufficient progress integrating climate risk into their business model or disclosures. Of these companies, we took voting action against 53 or 22%. We put the remaining 191 companies on watch. Those that do not make significant progress risk voting against management in 2021.”
The firm further writes in the second half of 2020 “it plans to initiate engagement with 110 other companies across carbon intensive sectors, including companies in the next wave in tackling climate change such as financial services.”
There are other areas that BlackRock will soon focus upon including “diversity and inclusion as well as racial justice.”
