Have you tried pulling in a station off an antenna from your local repeater? You can usually find Abc/nbc/cbs/fox there and not miss the debates. Also, and I haven't tried this but I heard it works, if you have internet from your local cable company, use a splitter that runs to your modem to the coax on your tv and scan for channels on the antenna menu. You should get those stations. It's worth a try, at least.
