So many lies being told (shocker I know) so here’s the real story. Austin was one of the worst hit cities this storm which you can confirm by the NWS. Over 7in of snow, ice storms, and freezing temps for over 120hrs. We do not have the infrastructure to deal with any of that. No building codes for freezing cold. No snow clearing equipment. What hit us the worst was the multiple ice storms. That made all travel instantly impossible since last Saturday night. We had no warning. What you had for food and water was all you had. By around Tuesday things were getting critical. People stuck in their homes for days without power, water, food. The average temperature inside someone’s home was around 45f. Tuesday I spent all day in my 4wd SUV delivering what food could be purchased and transporting people to save places. So we’re many other people with Jeeps and so were any EMT or police with the ability to travel as the roads were pure ice. Police were dropping cases of water at people’s houses randomly as well. Now it’s Saturday. Thousands are homeless due to pipe bursts. No tap water in 500 miles is drinkable. Every grocery store is a 2 hour line and all shelves are empty. What does any of this have to do with “liberalism”???? Liberals didn’t create the building codes that didn’t specify cold weather practices so pipes don’t freeze. Liberals didn’t take snow plows off the city’s budget. Liberals didn’t shut down the nuclear power plant due to freezing temps. Liberals didn’t freeze the natural gas plants due to lack of cold weather preparation. Renewable energy (wind/solar) only accounts for less than 20% of Texas’ power capacity and none of those were needed to supply the power demand had the NG and Nuclear went offline.

A single parent currently making minimum wage of $8.64 pulls in an income of $324 a week, $94 in food stamps, and only $0.40 cents a lunch for your child or -$2 a week. Net income? $416 a week.
Minimum wage raised to $15/hr will pull an income of $563, no benefits as you no longer qualify, and $2.25 a day for lunch. If you spent $94 a week in food, that is now 20% higher due to inflation, so you're spending $113 a week on groceries to equal your previous SNAP benefits. Net income? $438.
Raising the minimum wage from $8.64 to $15 only nets a $22 a week increase in overall income, but unfortunately the cost of living going up roughly 4% (housing, etc) due to inflation will net an overall lower income at $15/hr than current $8.64.

If you’re a single mom working minimum wage, the reduced lunch program cutoff is $23,107 yearly income. Well, congratulations, your minimum wage full time job is now $15/hr. You now make $30,000 a year. Your child no longer qualifies for reduced school lunches.
Oh and what about food for your child at home? The SNAP income limit is $2311 for a single mom. You now make $2400.
Single mothers no longer quality for food assistance for them or their child working minimum wage.

The news is leaving out a very important tidbit of information.
Atlanta has 1600 ICU beds. There's only 1097 confirmed COVID-19 infections in the whole state of Georgia (and I can't seem to find any information on how many confirmed cases in Atlanta, how convenient). Why is Atlanta's ICU at capacity? Influenza is a big role.
2020 is a very bad year for influenza. In the USA, we've had over 710,000 hospitalizations and 59,000 deaths from influenza from Oct 1st to March 14th. In Atlanta, reported flu cases are up 300% over normal. That's right, almost 3 times more people have died from the flu in the USA than people that have died from COVID-19, worldwide, in the same time span. What.

According to the CDC, only 2.86% of COVID-19 infections have required ICU. So let's pretend Atlanta has the only ICU beds in the entire state of Georgia and all ICU COVID-19 patients are in Atlanta.
That would only account for 32 out of 1600 beds being used for COVID-19.

Our own CDC is reporting 1.2% mortality rate but testing is limited, so only really sick people are getting tested. Once more people are tested, the mortality rate will dip well below 1% in the USA. Probably below 0.0x%.
When this is all said and done, overreaction to COVID-19 will go down as the stupidest moment in modern history. They were right though, millions will die worldwide from the result of unemployment.
