GameStop didn’t cause what’s going on. Wallstreetbets is using GameStop as a vehicle to destroy a hedge fund that was betting against GameStop.
They are getting a flood of cash from purchases of their stock.
Basically a ragtag group of retail stock traders got together on Reddit and targeted a risky hedge fund. The hedge fund is now going bankrupt. The powers that be are obviously worried as this is basically outsiders using the rules to fleece the rich and it’s not supposed work that way. The main stream business news networks are crying about it.
A group of smaller players got together on Reddit and made moves that caused it to go up quickly.
