I'm considering either a 9" or 11.5" for my build. Going to be chambered in 5.56 but I'm not sure which one will be "better". The gun will only be used for home defense as I already have a fun-gun.
Any recommendations?
My first AR was a 16" 5.56 Ruger with free floating mlok rail and telescoping buttstock . I love it. Very affordable and fires nicely.
It's about $700 but doesn't come with any optics (not even iron sights). You can use the extra $300 go put whatever optic you want on it. Or buy shitty ones to find your preference before you spend real money on an optic (red dot? green? iron sights? flip up iron sights? scope? etc).

It's not even that. It's the Overton Window. I STILL could consider myself liberal, (perhaps socially liberal and fiscally conservative or maybe just libertarian) but what the left is now ISN'T liberal. They keep shifting the window one slot at a time.

What happens is when an idea gets to "1", it can then become "0". What was once unthinkable becomes radical. What was once radical becomes acceptable. This leads people into believing shit like destroying history, invading private property, attacking "Nazis", "racists", "fascists" and opening all the borders as being sensible ideas.
