I'm not surprised. It's just how it works in these types of places. I spent waaay too much time in NOLA as a younger person, and when I had to go to Baltimore on business a few times for my last job, Baltimore made me feel uneasy. On the way to a nice restaurant, the GPS took me down the wrong road nearby, and it was like being in the squatter-occupied post-Katrina NOLA projects.
I really wish there was a way to fix beautiful historic cities like this, I really do, but I have no idea what that way could be.

If gibs are sufficient, they vote for the same D until the D dies/ retires/ goes to jail (and not even that stops them for voting for that D). A few years ago, I broke pretty much all of my ribs in a bad accident. I spent the night in the hospital and was discharged the next day despite having a fever. Turns out the fever was hospital acquired pneumonia. Between the pain medication and difficulty breathing because broken ribs, I was nearly dead less than 24 hours after leaving the hospital. My wife rushed me to the hospital when she couldn't wake me up the next morning, and I got airlifted to the regional hospital. The doctors said within my wife's earshot that they didn't think I'd make it. She stills checks on me if I so much as sneeze.
After waking up in the hospital a week later, the last thing I remembered was getting home after the last time I was discharged. I spent another week there before I was discharged again.
I talked to attorneys about trying to sue because my medical records clearly stated I was discharged the first time with broken ribs and hospital acquired pneumonia. Every single attorney turned me down because I had employment insurance. It didn't matter that I lost 2 weeks of my life and have permanent lung scarring. No one was ever held accountable for the massive fuck up. I hope and pray your brother in law makes it, fren, and has a better case to make the idiots that did this face justice.
