This is one of those situation where the English language screws itself and tries to undo the damage by making it worse. When referring to things possesively, it is always " 's ". However there is a conflict with "it" since it is also used in a contration (which are essentially improper slang). So to solve the problem, the possessive version loses it's (its) apostrophe to eliminate confusion. I just avoid contractions if I can anymore.
It's actually correct, being used in the possessive context in this case.
