After it gets to about a thousand the trailing digits are all hidden so you could make it so that after it gets to 1000 one downvote counts for something like 0.25 of a full downvote and maybe adds 0.50 of an upvote to the upvote talley. They can use a floor or ceiling function of course to keep the upvotes as whole numbers in case you have something like 100 upvotes and 1000 downvotes, where adding fractional quantities to the upvotes could becone visible.
