He was a child when the event happened, he would have been very vulnerable and who knows what was happening behind the scenes; how many threats on his and his families lives there may have been. He could have felt it was the best way to protect his family and himself from future harm.
I donated to Lin Wood's fund for him, not sure if Wood is still involved but an associate of his was handling the criminal case.
I know the family disagreed with Wood on setting up a Trust for Kyle prior to him being tried. Wood was right to advise them to hold off, for if he lost the families of the clowns he shot will go after the Trust and put a lien on it pending any appeal. So they would have no access to the cash.

Agree with the article except for the part about Putin having any interest in going into Ukraine.
Russia wants no part of Ukraine, it is a basket case and if it did take Donetsk and Lugansk the US would immediately use it as an excuse to plunk missiles down in Ukraine on their new borders.
France, Germany also want no part of a battle in Ukraine, have told Putin and the President of Ukraine that as well.
What might be interesting is what Putin may decide to do about the 12-14 US biolabs in Ukraine. France and Germany also want to know what the hell is up with those installations.
