If you are worried about Puerto Rico becoming a state, this is the man who is most likely to make it happen. Pedro Pierluisi, who took over as Governor today, is a slick operator. He was our representative in Washington under two different administrations (different parties), so he knows his way around Washington. He’s an active Democrat and is very involved in stateside politics at the national level.
In terms of political stature, he has the natural engaging charm of a Chuck Schumer. He’s also a rare statehooder who truly believes in statehood. (Most are rather ambivalent, to be honest.) His inaugural speech today mentioned statehood three times, but very notably, the official English translation excised all those references. As we say in Puerto Rico, “el mono sabe el palo que trepa” (the monkey knows which tree he’s climbing). He’s rallying his support for statehood here while keeping it quiet stateside.
Unlike most of our Governors, he speaks English perfectly without an accent, and has the Ivy League education and political contacts at the highest level. Be vigilant. Be aware. The last plebiscite put support for statehood at 52% (all the reasons that is nonsense don’t matter to the narrative). This man could be the one to push it through.
It was 37 different buildings in 26 different municipalities, actually.
If you think the Vice President of the USA has time to respond to every lawsuit, you have no idea how busy he is. It's likely the lawsuit came up in his morning briefing and he told them to take care of it. He had nothing to do with the motion to dismiss, that was all DOJ lawyers who represent him. Pence and Trump have their own game plan and this wasn't it.
Ummm...yes it is true. She announced in her video that she already has an adjunct position and she will be teaching "the new generation of community and human rights activists." Grievance Studies is not a thing, it's a sarcastic slap at all the fake "studies" degrees out there, from "women's studies" to "black history studies" to "gender studies" to whatever the hell they will call her class.
