In many islamic countries it is customary to name your first born son Muhammad (or any of the 1000 variants of that word). Because many countries also use the patronymic surname system (your surname is your father's first name), this creates a lot of double-Muhammads. This is then often solved by altering the spelling to another variant, e.g. Muhammad mohammed and so on. TLDR: almost every muslim family has one or several muhammads.
I wonder if a sub count can be protected against (malicious) people simply registering dozens of user names? I mean, what if some asshole with a script registers asshole00000 through asshole99999? There should be some additional requirement to be counted, like, "this user actually looked at the site at least two times", or a comment, or a captcha, or something? Right now I think it would be too easy to game, and it would be sad that this sub number would be a massive overestimation due to these shenanigans.
