I agree with you there. Here in the lowlands, elections are extremely secure on the front end, but with the actual paper ballot being given at the polling station, after being ID'd, checked on the voter roll and given a red PENCIL (so not anything permanent), the ballot has no unique tracking ID number. The ballot is a paper blank. Our election back end is (i think) completely shot and you must apparently just trust the counting that happens afterwards.
