I’m busy, so won’t argue too much, but it depends on what you mean by “evolution.” If you mean natural selection and the promulgation of survival traits, I’m totally on board. But if you believe that there was a primordial sludge, filled with single-cell organisms (with no accounting of when or how they came to exist), and one day one morphed into two cells, setting off a series of happy accidents that resulted in the order and biodiversity that we see today, I’d have to think that you’ll believe just about fucking anything.
If one of those cells managed to take a path to humanity, why did another cell only manage to become a germ? It was lazy? Not one of its kind had the balls to sprout legs and lead his kind out of their lowly station? They exist because they have to exist, given the order of things. And if they have to exist, then everything else depends on their not evolving, which means that there is no freedom to evolve, which totally undercuts the theory.
Basically, the idea is predicated on the acceptance that what exists now exists because it exists. If you think that worms only evolved to the state of being worms because if they hadn’t, the robins would starve, you’re accepting that there is a design.
Basically, there’s no explanation of why things are how they are, other than the explanation that that’s how they are, which leads to a pretty weak theory.
