Oh, I totally agree. I can see the benefit of this tech for an off the grid means of communication, I think the concept is great! The potential has the means of making traditional HAMM radio's obsolete, the tech and gear required is certainly much more readily available and hella more affordable with less red tape. But consider that your standard CB radio has a range of 8 to 10 miles compared to LORAS 3 kilometers? Its got a way to go, they need to boost the power and range to at least match the range of CB bands. Now I'm just a novice when it comes to radios but I know a bit about them, if it was possible to hook the device into an amplifier like the type they use for HAMM radios! Dude! Now your talk'n some serious range that would make text providers obsolete. ISP's would lose their shit!
This tech is still in its infancy, even the software is still in developement. The other issue is range, which is dependent on the location of other nodes whose range is subject to line of sight, and a dismal three kilometer range. It may have useful implications for small groups, but it would take massive funding to get this thing off the ground to the consumer market for it to have any universal benefit. I am not knocking the technology, I'm just saying it has a long way to go. Not to mention if the F see see gets wind of it they will drop a ban hammer on it, best it stay underground tech.
