I've done it a half dozen times or so (given it was back around 02) and every time we were armed. There was NEVER a question of if we should take our guns or not.

To be fair, they can't help the swerving. Humvees were giant pieces of shit when I drove them in the 2000s and I can't imagine they've improved. Also, they go 45-50 mph because unless you got lucky that's about the top speed with your foot to the floor.

12 trucks is nothing. Our signal battalion was over 150 trucks when we would convoy. If a full brigade or even division mobilized we would see convoys miles long.

Yes, with weapons. Did it many times when I was stationed in Texas around 2002. We'd travel between bases in surrounding states for exercises, always had our weapons with us.
